And now I never let a dog run loose they are always tied, leashed or fence.

And the same for cats, they used to be indoor/outdoor, now they are locked inside, for fear of them getting hurt.

I think with the change of mind of pets being part of the family, the change in care came with. Same with toys, when I was a kid our dogs didn't have toys, now they have catalogs full of them.

Interesting and great post. My husband and I have had this conversation many a times. Thank for brining it up.24 Paws of Lovehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06574070591449171093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2295314400335672773.post-81894082815878040312010-08-15T21:18:51.707-07:002010-08-15T21:18:51.707-07:00City vs. country. He sure did have a good life, in many ways, though.

Bocci and his Parental UnitBoccihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06528799483113787664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2295314400335672773.post-81333815530831200642010-08-15T19:32:11.679-07:002010-08-15T19:32:11.679-07:00I grew up on a farm and experienced some of what y...I grew up on a farm and experienced some of what you describe. We had Border Collies, who are infamous car chasers, so our dogs were kept tied up by the house when we weren't out with them. I'll never forget how devastated I was to learn that a group of neighbor dogs, who had been coming to the house every day while my dad was gone to work, had killed our dog when he broke free and went after them. I'll never, ever let a dog run loose.houndstoothhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02159272473651561647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2295314400335672773.post-4228808439312300672010-08-15T19:15:17.894-07:002010-08-15T19:15:17.894-07:00Well I grew up in the suburbs, and when I was youn...Well I grew up in the suburbs, and when I was young we had a collie named Titan. He wasn't on heartworm pills ever, I'm not even sure if ever had a heartworm test. At night he slept tied to our kitchen table and we fed him Gaines Burgers-remember those? He wasn't microchipped, he only had his little ID tag. We didn't have pet insurance on him because we rarely went to the vets and back then it didn't cost much.
He lived to be 13!
Things sure are different now:)jenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08111366525685780384noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2295314400335672773.post-86453611160091216362010-08-15T18:39:49.708-07:002010-08-15T18:39:49.708-07:00Much love to you and tagged you with an award! ht...Much love to you and tagged you with an award! http://www.arwenspack.blogspot.com/ForPetsSakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11716344585805514703noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2295314400335672773.post-50024198393125392682010-08-15T17:41:06.578-07:002010-08-15T17:41:06.578-07:00This post really hit home with me! I wonder what others who don't have the city/country experience will say... I'm interested to hear people's answers!Pup Fanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17539666792034242448noreply@blogger.com
